Welcome! Wow!
So you’re different and have an edge! Let’s hope you’re committed to walking the walk!

If you’re looking for a 9 am to 5 pm, 3 to 4 day-a-week internship for the summer, this is not the one. Think 8 am to 8 pm, 6 days a week. Yes! We work very hard!
Here is the fun part …
We party even harder. We expect you to leave exhausted after this summer, but you will also have experienced an extraordinary adventure, a WOW endeavor, and done business in one of the most competitive environments on the planet, New York City! And you will have succeeded at it! Think Olympics in term of effort, think Super Bowl in terms of reward and recognition! Think Will Smith in The Pursuit of Happyness! (Click here to see some of the Pursuit of Happyness links and click here to see Will Smith talk about wisdom and work!
Yes! Our office is in a fancy skyscraper two blocks from the center of the world, Times Square! Overlook the Manhattan trappings!
Being part of this internship means nothing is impossible for you! Because you’re not a reasonable person. Reasonable people follow the crowd! You’re unreasonable! You think like Steve Jobs, Seth Godin, and Spike Lee! Unreasonable people persist in changing the world the way they imagine it to be! This is a sales position in real estate, an industry that is one of the pillars of New York City!
Click here to read our daily blog! It will give you a sense of who we are!
Our culture is very important to us. Think happiness, laughter, sense of humor, and fun! Yes, we take our work seriously, but we don’t take ourselves seriously! We celebrate and party all the time! If FUN is not your middle name, it sure will be by the time this internship is over!
Here is an outline of what a WOW Champion salesperson's day looks like at Starnest.
- Posting ads on Craigslist in the morning to attract potential clients that day (Your advertising and marketing skills come into play here!)
- Taking client calls when they respond to your ads (Real estate does not require any cold calling! Yeah!)
- Qualifying a client over the phone. (Making sure that they are, "ready,
willing & able!")
- Scheduling an appointment with the client and then making sure you confirm that time with the landlord / management company as well. (Organizational skills! Yes!)
- Meeting the client at the building and showing the apartment to them. (There is a skill to that plus you get to know Manhattan. Who wants to sit behind a desk fetching coffee or making photocopies all day?)
- Guiding the client thru the paperwork & application process. (Pretty standard stuff! However, good follow up skills required!)
- Lease signed, rent & security checks submitted by client. (Yes! Yes! Yes!)
- You invoicing the company and getting paid for your efforts! (Wow! I'm making money! I love that! That Prada bag or 1964 Mustang is one step closer!)
- Requesting a testimonial from the client. (Because you gave extraordinary service to them).
- Sending thank you cards to the tenant, rental office, your manager and any one else who may have helped you along to get the transaction consummated. (Mandatory!)
Of course, life throws an occasional curve ball. Tenant does not show up for the appointment, apartment gets rented before you get there or the clients credit is not good enough to qualify him for the apartment! In that case you shrug it off, SMILE and move to the next task at hand.
Okay, let’s get some basics out of the way.
Requirements:
- New York State salesperson license. It takes 75 hours of online classes that need to be completed by May 1, 2010 (that means before the internship starts this summer). Online class investment: $395. (We reimburse you the entire amount when you close your first deal!)
- Must work a minimum of 12 weeks, full-time (think 70 hours a week!).
- Own a laptop (hopefully Apple! … Okay, a Dell with Windows is fine too.)
- You will be responsible for your own accommodations, travel, and other related expenses while staying in New York City!
- Must invest your heart and soul in trying to rent at least 6-7 apartments during your internship; remember, you’re a real estate agent and that’s what you will be investing your time and effort in!
Wow! You’re still here and interested? Great! You’ve got the guts! Here is the GLORY!
- Earn $4,000 - $10,000 in commissions! The more deals you close, the more commissions you earn!
- Every intern who completes 6 transactions, will receive a Brand New Apple Ipad!!
- The best real-world business experience ever!
- Meet and befriend other mavericks like you. Leave with great friends for life!
- A full-time position will await you in New York City after you graduate! Rookie agents in their first year have taken home six figures! What recession?
- Showing apartments in Manhattan also means enjoying it and getting to know it. You’ll know it like the back of your hand!
- Last but not least, when you succeed, the recognition of your peers will be intense, gratifying, and worth every second.
So are you ready to outlast, outsmart, and outwit the competition? Helen Keller once said, “Life is a daring adventure or nothing at all!"
Then please call 212-302-1650 and leave your name and cell phone number (slowly and clearly!), and our Recruitment Director will call you back to schedule a phone interview!
